CeLDD FAQ's (Frequently Asked Questions) 1. Do I have to attend tutorials or lectures? 2. How long is the course? 3. How do I enrol? 4. How much does the course cost? 5. What will I learn in CeLDD? 6. Do I need any special knowledge or advanced qualifications to enrol? 7. If I have any previous e-learning or teaching qualifications will they be recognised as prior learning that counts towards CeLDD? 8. Do I need any special equipment or technical knowledge to enrol? 1. Do I have to attend tutorials or lectures? No - CeLDD is completely online. You can study at your pace, in your own space, and in a timeframe that suits your schedule and lifestyle. 2. How long is the course? CeLDD is a minimum of 6 months (full-time) and a maximum of 2 years (part-time). It consists of 60 credits at level 4 of the New Zealand Register of Quality Assured Qualifications. On average it would be about 600 hours of study - but everyone is different and will complete the course at their own pace. The enrolment schedule for 2008 is under review and more details will be posted in February. In the meantime, please email celdd@northtec.ac.nz to register your interest. You will receive more details when these are finalised. 3. How do I enrol? NZ residents can enrol by requesting an enrolment form by emailing celdd@northtec.ac.nz. International participants must please email celdd@northtec.ac.nz for more information on the enrolment process. 4. How much does the course cost? $1000.00 (incl GST) for NZ residents for international participants - please enquire at celdd@northtec.ac.nz 5. What will I learn in CeLDD? Graduates successfully completing this programme will be capable of being able to design and develop an e-learning course that is relevant to their own particular context. They will develop skills and knowledge in the effective use of: a learning management system for online courses social software for learning in networked environments new digital media for creating interactive learning resources an e-portfolio system as an ongoing record of learning achievement open-source authoring tools and digital learning resources to create engaging learning environments suited to the needs of 21st century learners and the development of a knowledge society. 6. Do I need any special knowledge or advanced qualifications to enrol? No - CeLDD requires a minimum of NCEA level 3 (or equivalent) and basic knowledge of using the internet and email. You should also be working in a context where you are teaching or supporting teaching - you don't have to be a teacher or tutor, but you should be in a position where you can design an e-learning course or activities for students. It is also possible to enrol if you have done tertiary study in another course (eg. graphics, digital media, etc) but you must be able to apply your knowledge gained in CeLDD to some aspect of e-learning. 7. If I have any previous e-learning or teaching qualifications will they be recognised as prior learning that counts towards CeLDD? CeLDD is a leading-edge course that focuses on emerging approaches to e-learning such as social software, web 2.0, computer games, mobile learning, etc. If your previous study includes any of these you may be able to get some credit. CeLDD is also Moodle-oriented so if you have completed the Moodle Teacher Certificate this may also count. 8. Do I need any special equipment or technical knowledge to enrol? You must have your own computer with internet access or be able to use one regularly. The minimum technical requirements are a PC with Windows XP, Mac with OS 10.3 or later, or other equivalent systems. You need to be able to install applications on the computer or have the necessary support to do this. Broadband internet access is not compulsory but is highly recommended. You dont need any special technical skills but you must have a valid email address that you know how to use and be familiar with using a browser to access the internet. |
